Museum of contemporary art in Barcelona:
It was designed by architect Richard Meier (1934).It 's located in the neighborhood of El Raval, which was originally a dense neighborhood in a deplorable state full of vulnerable immigration. The city council opted for a profound renewal of the area in the pre-olympic period.According to Meier himself, the neighborhood desperately needed light, air, open public spaces and a heart. The medieval streets of the Barri Gòtic (narrow winding streets, dense mass of heavy stone buildings with projecting balconies, narrow openings through which the sun slips) inspired the linear organization of the museum, its thick walls and vertical spaces. In a Mediterranean environment where the light is so abundant, narrow streets lit from above inspired his important zenithal lighting with large skylights. |
